There are days when they barely eat what I cook.
Did you know tweens are fickle?
Teens too. 🙄
They want to eat meat, and meat is expensive, especially reputable meat (pasture raised, for example), so I gotta get creative here.
Today, I started with ground beef.

Yesterday I accidentally dropped a guinea pig into his cage where he landed on a rock.
Granted, there was hay on the rock, and the fall wasn’t that far, just a few inches, but still.
Hope he doesn’t have a piggie concussion. (He’s fine, I checked twice and again this morning.)
It’s his fault anyway; why would he leap out if my arms like that? He appeared to enjoy the snuggle just a minute earlier….
Speaking of concussion, the kids went for a baseline test last week. And naturally, us being us, there had to be an adventure… 😂

this post? I was feeling tired and dispirited about the never-ending hockey and ringette my kids were involved in. That was back in January, still in the regular season. So almost three months ago.

I’ve been meaning to ration it just so the kids don’t gorge on it all day (and they’ve been pretty good at controlling themselves, I must say) but it’s like we haven’t even made a dent.
Then I had an idea.

Homework at the rink.
We are presently at the first of two rinks today. Lucky for us the hockey game was not early; we got to eat a hearty breakfast at home and take our time getting ready.

Beginning of hockey season has started with a BANG! Quite literally too….lots of practices, lots of action, and a pre-season tournament.
us not being amateurs, I should know better than to arrive at the rink without socks.

Back to school is on everyone’s mind, but in some places, school started already.
My extended family in Switzerland had their first day of school this week.
In Germany I believe the first day of school is next week.
Some of the southerns States appear to have had their first day of school in mid August already. Hope they have air conditioning down there in the school systems…

There is something to be said about explaining kids’ activity schedules to friends and family. Does this look familiar to you?
