Blending blogging with podcasts

Disclaimer: The following post is about an experience I had listening to a podcast. I am not advertising the blogs or podcasts on behalf of the bloggers, although I did link to them. They didn’t ask me to write this post; I came up with this idea all by myself. 😉 Also, be aware: this is a lengthy, wordy post. Exactly the sort of thing you would expect from me. 😉

Reaching out anyway – part 3

As some of you know, I went to school with a boy who became a famous, and internationally known musician, singer, guitar player.

Recap:

Since discovering him on social media and following him along, I have reminisced about an art class we both took in grade 11. I wanted to know if he, too, remembers that particular class. In part 1 of this story I wrote about how we met.

Later, I decided to reach out to him to ask him about that class. I wasn’t really expecting a response. I figured he was busy and famous and that he probably employs PR people to run his social media account. But I sent him a DM in Instagram anyway. Part 2 of this story tells you what happened next.

Getting to know one another: questions and answers

Thank you Michael of Kuched for having nominated me for an award.

I will answer his questions first, then nominate my list of people below along with my set of questions.

PS Michael has made me part of his morning routine. I am a ‘fix’ apparently. Hah. He also thinks I secretly rule the world…pfff. AS IF! Here is what he said about me:

Reaching out anyway – part 2

To read part 1 click here.

After I sent that DM in Instagram to a former classmate, I walked away from my phone.

The memory I had of an event in grade 11 art class had triggered something in me to want to reach out to this man, a boy I once knew for many years in school and who is now a famous musician, singer and guitarist.

I was really curious: did he remember that class as vividly as I did?

GenXers, digital technology and the authenticity of blogging friendships

I am interrupting my vacation memories reporting to bring you some other thoughts percolating through my head. 🙂

There are people in my life who consider internet friends not real.

Most ‘real’ people in my life consider all things social media ‘fake’. Essentially, they consider a person I ‘met’ through a blog or social media as ‘not a real friend’ and thereby ‘fake’.

As if meeting in physical life is a prerequisite to authentic friendship.

I am not one of those people.

Are you?

Reflecting on posts of fellow bloggers

I read a bit of a heartbreaking post the other day and reflected on his words for some time after.

Then, I tried to turn this into an opportunity to reflect on my own current state of mind. Am I spending too much time inside my own head?

I am my own worst enemy.

NOT writing books during NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth

About a year and a half ago I started writing a memoir. I wrote it like I was possessed, the words flowing out of my head and onto my screen without too much trouble.

I didn’t edit. I didn’t re-read. I just wrote it out.

Then I stopped.

I worried. Why can’t I continue? Why am I stuck now, after such a strong start?

Why do we blog? On fear, inspiration and writer’s block

I’ve noticed while reading other blogs that one of the persistent worries people have is that they don’t have anything exciting to write about.

Often times I see phrases like ‘my life is boring, routine and not interesting’, or variations of that.

Well, I think we all get sucked into that mentality, don’t we? For the most part, life is pretty routine, for all of us.

So why is it that some people find things to write about daily and maintain interest in their readership, while others struggle to come up with something they consider interesting enough to write/blog about and share with the internet?
