Last night, on a Saturday night no less, I was not at a rink.
If you’re a long time reader here you may understand the significance of this. We’re raising rink rats here, and weekends are usually all about youth sports. And yes, they schedule games on Saturday nights. 🙂
The other place I hang out at on those nights are pizza joints. Pizza, I’ll have you know, is a staple in a young athlete’s life. Omg the amount of pizza that is consumed by my rink rats…
Anyway, last night, I was neither in an arena nor in a pizza joint. 😀
We went out.
Not out out, but still out.
Out out would have meant wearing fancy boots, but sadly, my boots remained in the closet. I’ll wear those another time. Maybe.
We ended up with friends who had invited us over several times the past six months. Something always came up, either for them, or for us, which had us reschedule time and again. They too have kids in sports. Enough said.
So, last night worked out finally, and after the hockey boy got home from an afternoon game and had a quick shower, we braved the biblical floods that were occurring outside and drove over to our friends’ house.
The kids immediately disappeared, as they do. Their boy goes to school with mine and they spent many years playing baseball together. Their girl is similar aged as mine and they too have many things in common.
We heard them, but we rarely saw them. 😀
We ate lasagna and Cesar salad and chatted and admired their renovation and updated ourselves about all the things and spent much time
commiserating comparing notes about raising teen boys and…it was fun!
Today, I still felt full, it was still raining, and everyone headed back to the rink. 😉
It was a nice break, while it lasted. Not sure when I will have another rink-free Saturday night…maybe when the kids move out? Or when they move passed all the sports commitments?
Or maybe when they get their driver’s license?
Time will tell. 😉
